Andy Larmouth

Andy Larmouth is one the founding members of Jambience, along with Enrick Adam and Phillip Jackson, and played with the band between July 1998 to December 2001. Not only did Andy co-write many of the Jambience's early pieces, he also painted what has become the band's logo after working alongside an Aboriginal artist  while in Australia.

Now living in Luton in the UK, Andy has been a working musician, principally gigging and giving guitar lessons for most of his adult life (although he denies having achieved that developmental stage vehemently). He was born in Stockton-on-Tees on the 28th January 1977, and he moved down to Luton in 1984. His first brush with music was a disturbing encounter with a violin, and it was at this point that Andy thought it would be a good idea to take up the guitar! So, the next four years were spent learning. Still not satisfied with distressing people with the violin, he thought that playing heavy metal would be quite good fun, so at age 14 he joined first band. Maybe surprisingly, they lasted for about 5 years.

After playing with Jambience, both in Australia and around the UK, Andy regrettably left the band in January 2001 in order to pursue music of a more chilled-out nature. Currently, he plays in a Luton based band called Rush Hour, who recently launched their debut CD. For more information on Andy, and Rush Hour, check out their website: www.rushhour.org.uk In the event that you don't go to their site to dig up more dirt on Jambience's response to Baby Spice (that's what he was nick-named when we were gigging in Oz-- honest!) we think it's important that you are aware that Andy's biggest influences are John Denver, Barry Manilow and Iron Maiden but, in his own words, he never has been completely normal.

Chris Puleston

Chris was Jambience's principle percussionist between July 1999 and January 2001. A long time friend of Andy Larmouth (see above), Chris joined the band on their debut UK gig at Brighton's Sussex Arts Club. A multi-talented percussionist, Chris was exposed to his chosen profession from an early age. His father was a Jazz and Dance Hall drummer through the 1940’s and 50’s, and taught Chris hand percussion and kit drumming from the age of four. By the time Chris was fourteen, he was studying classical percussion, and playing in both orchestral ensembles, and rock cover bands.

For the past twenty-five years, Chris has played in a staggering number of ensembles, playing incredibly varied musical styles. These include rock cover bands, "spacey rock synthesiser music", blues funk, experimental and improvisational Jazz, and Bee Bop to name just a few.

Chris is currently based in the Milton Keynes area and continues to work in bands and as a session musician, along with developing and teaching drum and percussion courses.

Rohan Kriwaczek

Although not officially a member of Jambience, composer and performer Rohan Kriwaczek has played with the band at virtually every Brighton gig since the band 's first official UK gig in 1999. His highly evocative violin and flute playing also features on several tracks on Jambience's second release, Jambience: Live (see the music section).

Born in 1968, Rohan Kriwaczek showed an early interest in music and started composing when he was seven. As a teenager he studied with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Oliver Knussen and Judith Wier before taking degrees at the University of Sussex and the Royal Academy of Music.

Since graduating Rohan has written numerous scores for TV, radio and the theatre alongside developing a career performing E. European, Middle Eastern and Jewish folk music. His classical music bears witness to these interests, and to his award winning experiments in multimedia radio with producer Lance Dann. As a violinist, clarinetist and bagpipe player he has performed in Israel, Poland, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland, and gives regular recitals around S. E. England with pianist John Human and cellist Una Birtchnell. Along with Jambience, he has done recordings with, Junoreactor, and is a regular member of Pressure Drop.

In and amongst all of this, Rohan still finds time to look after his two children, Kya (8) and Schosti (4) with his partener Jo. He is also a regular feature busking on the streets of Brighton, and he has recorded five solo albums varying from Classical and World Music to avant garde multimedia, and two duo albums with singer and violinist Jason Dickinson.

Iain Dunnet

Secretly referred to as Jambience's George Martin, Iain has worked very closely with the band since 1999. Introduced to the band through Phillip Jackson, Iain recorded and mixed the band's live CD entitled Jambience: Live, along with maintaining this website, and pretty much knowing more about the band's development than he would care to otherwise as the Jambience has pitched a permanent camp upstairs in his record label's Brighton offices.

A New Zealand native, (but we don’t hold that against him), Iain's career as a musician began at the age of four when he discovered the piano. At an early age, his family moved to the UK, and by the age of 16 he was already a professional keyboard player.

Throughout his years in the UK, Iain has regularly worked as a top session musician, working for the likes of Godley and Creme, Peter Haycock (Climax Blues Band) and Roger Whittaker. As a songwriter, through his record/production company (Dunnet Wright Music), he has seen chart success in the last two years all over Europe as well as in his native New Zealand.

Currently, Iain continues to record and perform with his most recent band, Sun, and complains often about English weather despite its similarity to that of NZ. For more information about Iain and Dunnet Wright Music, please refer to: www.iaindunnet.com

Last August, we were fortunate enough to share the stage with Jazz guitar virtuoso Robin Jones. Robin's music is both exceptional and prodigious. As well as playing in the outstanding acoustic jazz fusion duo Passion Dance, Robin is one of the founding members of Brighton's ever popular jazz-funk outfit Urubu. Residents of Brighton's celebrated Jazz club Casa Blanca, Urubu have released several CDs, as well as having played throughout the UK and South America.

Outside of his breathtaking live performances, Robin records prolifically. His most recent CD release "Just Thoughts" displays Robin's more introspective side. The CD also featuring bassist Franc O'Shea and multi-instrumentalist Charlotte Glasson.

As well as jamming with players as diverse as Larry Coryell and Steve Howe, Robin has made numerous television appearances, and his music has regular airplay on Jazz FM. For a sample, please head over to www.flymusic.com

Jambience appears to have an ever growing French connection. As didgeridoo-playing vegetation Frenchman are a rare species in Brighton, I suppose our hooking up with him doesn't really come as a surprise. We came across Paris born-computer animator/artist Florian Guibert through collaborating on the dedicated Aboriginal fund-raising CD entitled The Dreaming, which is released through Dunnet Wright Music. After watching his spectacular video, [Ab]origine, which appears on the CD, we asked him if we could show the video at one of our gigs. Happily he agreed and then suggested the possibility of adding a visual back-drop to our entire set. The result just blew our minds!

After the gig, we all quietly hoped that this was not going to be a one-off event. Happily, Flo offered to VJ again at our gig at Glastonbury Town Hall (Nov 2001). Again the results blew the audience (not to mention us) away, and Flo and his posse continued to do visuals for the band which followed to everyone's delight. Happily, Flo has now agreed to VJ our gigs whenever he can, so hold on to your eyeballs if you are lucky enough to catch him in action!

The painting (left) is one a series of five abstract self-portraits which were painted between 1999 and 2000. Each piece measures 2m x .5m, and together, they repersent a personal interpretation of five elemets of the human condition.
