Jambience is a band whose music defies current categorisation. As well as using mainstream western musical instruments in their pieces, they also incorporate a wide array of non-western instruments in their arrangements. These include didgeridoos, tablas, djembes, darboukas, a tamboura and a scharutti box to name a few.  It is Jambience’s belief that the fusion of indigenous musical styles with contemporary western music produces something invariably fresh and exciting, which pushes music beyond mere passive entertainment.

Stylistically speaking, Jambience is as eclectic as their instrumentation.  The band members come from diverse musical roots and bring their respective influences together to create music which combines a wide range of musical traditions such as flamenco jazz, and Indian Ragas, with more modern genres such as ambient-trance and drum’n’bass.

Although all of Jambience’s music is instrumental, its members still try and deliver a message through their music.  Through their incorporation of exotic instruments with those which are more mainstream in the west, they hope to awaken in their audiences an appreciation of and a respect for the traditions of cultures other than their own; musical and otherwise.  “Music transcends cultural barriers such as race and religion.  As such, we hope that we can use this tool to help build bridges which will close the gaps that separate cultures.
