Francis FirebraceFrancis Firebrace is one of Australia’s foremost Aboriginal story tellers. A member of the Yorta Yorta nation of south eastern New South Wales, Francis was born and raised in the bush until the age of seven. He initially developed his skills telling the stories of his people whilst working in his teens as a stockman in the outback.

Since these rugged beginnings, Francis’ reputation as a spokesman for Australia’s Aboriginal people has spread around the world. Over the past sixteen years, Francis has received two Australian state awards for his work, and he has travelled around the world to share the stories and spiritual beliefs of indigenous Australia to thousands of people.

As well as an exceptional storyteller, Francis is also a highly respected painter.  As such, he has interpreted many of the stories he tells on canvas.  In his performances, Francis incorporates both visual art and spoken work to recreate the principle messages of these timeless tales, which are drawn from a variety of Aboriginal nations from around Australia.

We are very grateful to the artist for granting us permission to reproduce his works for the purpose of this exhibition.
